How my Appearance on the Radio led to a Brisket Sandwich

This is a true story, with lots of local links, that ends in a brisket sandwich.

I was on the radio yesterday!  My friend Kris Harty, a.k.a. the “Short Chick with the Walking Stick“, has a radio show on Cosmic Internet Radio called “These Midlife Adventurers“.  In her day job, Kris’ business develops inspirational products that stick on things.

For example, these happy magnets grace my refrigerator.

I don’t have the link to the recorded show yet, but I’ll post it when I do.

We had such a good time talking on the show that we didn’t stop when the show was over and before I knew it, I was running a bit late!

And I was hungry!  That was a problem because, as you can imagine,  I am not a fan of fast food.  I passed several big fast food chains, all the while trying to think of where I could get a quick sandwich made of meat from Callicrate beef, the high-quality meat raised by Mike Callicrate and sold at his store, Ranch Foods Direct.  It’s available at several local diners in town, the question was simply whether my route took me past one.

Luckily, I remembered a food truck has parked itself in the Ranch Foods Direct parking lot!

I stopped at the truck, and though I never did catch its name, I did catch a brisket sandwich made with Callicrate beef, Old German Bakery bread and fries!

Fries

I don’t know the origin of the fries, but I was too hungry to care.

I paid $8 for this sandwich that rescued me from hunger.  I’m very grateful.

The truck has other items too, including burgers cooked to order.

The truck is quick, but I was not.  I tried to convince myself it only takes 5 minutes to get from  Ranch Foods on El Paso St. to the offices of my dentist, Dr. Carolyn Camarino, on Centennial blvd.  For the record, it’s not true.  It takes 20 minutes to make that trip!

Dr. Camarino’s staff graciously fit me in, despite my lateness.  I apologized profusely, but the truth is, I don’t regret it.  Despite all the rushing around, it was a really fun day!

And a really good sandwich!
